Can't Catch A Break

Muskego Park

Today I raced twice. Actually more like one and a half times. I did start two races though.

The first was the cat 3 race. My job was to mark this one dude. I did that for about the first 15 minutes. After that, I couldn't stay with him much. I was hurting. At the end, I didn't have any pop, and came across the line in the pack for 17th.

Then I did the 1/2/3 race. Or 30 minutes of it. The 3s race just took too much out of me.

On the bright side though, I navigated all the turns successfully. That's progress.

  • Hello Tom,

Glad to hear that your wrist injury was minimal and you are out racing so quickly.

At Muskego Park, Masters 4/5, I myself had the first race of the day. Warmed up, felt good, the machine was running smooth, then we lined up for the race to start.

We start facing the last climb on that section of the course - so clipping in the shoe at the right time was essential.

As the ref says start, I immediately attempt to clip in my left shoe. A couple rotations of the crank and I cannot get clipped. The peleton starts to pull away and I try like hell to finish clipping.

Then, thinking I am clipped in, I crank hard from my right leg, and I almost do a wheely and end up falling down on my right knee and ass.

Ripping my leggings and blood all over my knee, I tried to get the bike figured out. The chain came off, wheel was stuck, etc.

Finally got it all together and started riding up the hill to the summit and tried to establish a rythym.

I was ridding by myself for a bout 17 min. before I was lapped. Tried to hang with the group when they passed, but was burnt out from my effort. Got lapped again on the last lap of the race.

    Have a better tomorrow!

  • Oh man, what a race. That's got to be the worst way to lose the field.

  • Hey, are you racing the baraboo RR or WoW this weekend?

  • Yeah. I'll be racing both days. I have to get my registration in for WOW.

I don't know who you are J, (JDub perhaps?) but if you're faster than me and racing in the 3s, I'd suggest registering the day of. Otherwise, if you're racing, the fields will probably fill up and you should register in advance.
